An interview with Joanna Mockler — Widowed suddenly in
her fifties (her husband, Coleman Mockler, was CEO of Gillette), Joanna
was propelled into overwhelming transitions requiring flexibility,
wisdom and courage. She has used the subsequent decades to nurture her
family, serve at Grace Chapel, travel as a board member of World Vision,
and make a difference on the board of Gordon Conwell Theological
Seminary. Joanna will share with us what God has taught her about
trusting Him in making hard choices. In her ever humble, loving, wise
ways she embodies this statement, which is our theme for the month:
“As believers, we’re called to leave a weighty, permanent imprint of
God’s love, goodness and forgiveness on the world wherever we go, for as
long as we walk on this earth.”

EPIC is a group of boomers, early retirees, and empty-nesters who want to make a difference for the sake of God’s Kingdom and for the flourishing of the world. We seek to energize and mobilize our generation to live lives of significant love, wise influence, and generous involvement. We envision this as a missional community, used by God. “Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 3:13b-14
EPIC is designed for those who want to be active and involved—whether single or married, whether from Lexington or any other GC campus. Others from beyond our congregation are warmly invited and more than welcome to participate. While the nine Friday evening EPIC gatherings are easily identifiable and the visible “tip of the iceberg,” it is our hope and intention that the actions and involvement of our people between gatherings is the “iceberg below the surface,” the product or fruit of our community.

- Come for community and relationships (and desserts!)
- Come for inspiration—"From Power to Prisoner, God's View Changes Things," led by guest speaker, John Rowland, former US Congressman and Governor of Connecticut who will speak from personal experience on the life-changing impact of incarceration.
- Come for involvement—discussions with the above people that can mobilize or give us practical next steps
